Content Curation - Online Course Pilot Project

Are you interested in content curation and making the best information available for your students?
Do you want to learn online, in your own space, at a time that suits you?
Do you want to help us extend our professional development into a new dimension?

We are looking for a group of keen educators to trial our first online professional development course. Our popular face to face course ‘Content Curation’ has been redeveloped as an online module with extra content and activities that place your learning directly into your school environment.

When: 24 September until 26 October

  • Three hours every week for five weeks
  • Approximately three hours every week at a time that suits you

Where: Online, using the Moodle platform.

Who: Approximately 10 participants from anywhere in New Zealand. Ideally, we would like a teacher and a library team member from each school, but this is optional. The course content is appropriate for primary, intermediate and secondary schools.

Cost: Free!

Content of the course
During the five weeks of the course, participants will see many great examples of content curation and build an understanding of how content curation can support student learning in their schools. Participants will learn about the variety of things to think about before launching into a content curation project and will look at the variety of excellent tools and resources available to help. Content curation is also about developing ongoing learning communities and this course will help participants to work together to plan, create and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of their content curation work.

Participant requirements

  • Access to a computer during this time.
  • Access to the internet during this time (at least at broadband speeds).
  • Basic computer literacy, you do not need to be familiar with Moodle but it would be good if you can do things like save bookmarks and move easily between browser windows.
  • If you prefer to read from paper, you may also want access to a printer, but we have tried to keep the content in shorter pieces.
  • A total of approximately three hours every week of the five week course. This time will be spread out in smaller chunks over the week and can be at a time that suits you.
  • Time and honest responses to complete a detailed survey about your experiences at the end of the course so we can evaluate the learner experience in this online environment.
  • A smile – we’re learning too.
